National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications holds Black History Month celebration

By Clifford L. Williams, Globe City Editor

The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) recently held a Black History Month celebration at Comcast in Oakland.

The program included a keynote address by Reverend Cheryl Ward, the installation of officers by President Linda Crayton and musical performances by soloists Lucy Davis and Annette Knight.
Cheryl Chambers, public relations chair for NAMIC, spoke about the organization’s philosophy. “Through initiatives that focus on education, advocacy and empowerment, NAMIC champions’ equity and inclusion in the workforce. Special attention is given to ensure that the leadership cadres of our nation’s communication industry giants reflect the multi-ethnic richness of the populations they serve.
“We have nearly 2,000 professionals belonging to a network of 17 chapters nationwide,” she said. “One of our strongest programs is the Mentorship Program, where a senior executive of NAMIC can work with executives in their professional fields to help mentor them in their industry or help to advance their career.”
For more information on NAMIC, call membership cochairs Rosie Cornejo at (408) 201-8580 or Jada Roseman at (510) 567-9276.
