Richmond NAACP hosts
27th annual Freedom Fund Gala

From the Globe Community Desk

The Richmond NAACP hosted “Power Beyond Measure,” its 27th annual Freedom Fund Gala, on Saturday at the Doubletree Hotel at the Berkeley Marina.

The gala is the branch’s major fundraising event of the year.
Hilary Shelton, the director of the NAACP’s Washington Bureau, served as the keynote speaker. He is responsible for advocating the NAACP’s federal public policy issue agenda. Prior to his current role, Shelton worked in the Government Affairs Department for the United Negro College Fund in Washington, D.C.

The Ric Alexander Band provided entertainment during the event.
The NAACP is the oldest, largest and most widely recognized civil rights organization in the United States.
