Kent Masters King stars in
“General Hospital: Night Shift”

By Sandra Varner

Kent Masters King stars as Dr. Lainey Winters, a therapist who helps patients face their demons even though she can’t face any of her own, on SOAPnet’s first serialized drama for primetime, ‘General Hospital: Night Shift.’ The series goes beyond what is seen in daytime to reveal the lives and loves of “General Hospital’s” favorite characters during the hospital’s night shift.
Born in Los Angeles, King was discovered when she was a child tagging along to work with her mother, an actress who spent many years behind the nurses’ station on ABC’s “General Hospital.” It wasn’t long before King landed a guest spot on the ground-breaking series “Hill Street Blues,” which then led to a five-year run on the popular primetime drama “Knots Landing” as Julie Williams. King later earned a degree in cinema-television from the University of Southern California.
Before joining the cast of “General Hospital” in December 2005, King made guest appearances on “All of Us,” “The Jamie Foxx Show,” “The Wayans Bros.” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.” In 2000, she filled in for Victoria Rowell on “The Young and the Restless,” and in 2003, she played the role of Imani in the ABC daytime drama “Port Charles.” King has also appeared in music videos for R&B singer Glenn Lewis and R&B group Jagged Edge.
The talented actress has an impressive list of film credits that includes the upcoming Aftermath, in which she plays wife to Chris Penn’s character. She also performed in The Hillside Strangler (2004), Brace Face Brandi (2002), Love and a Bullet (2002) and The Wash (2001). She made her directing debut with the film Manolias Funeral, which won the Black American Cinema Society Award for Best Short Film.
