Woody Carter, Kathy Neal honored for community contributions at National Philanthropy Day luncheon

From the Globe Oakland Desk

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Golden Gate Chapter (AFP-GGC) and Northern California Grantmakers (NCG) honored Woody Carter and Kathy Neal for their contributions to the community during the annual National Philanthropy Day luncheon on Nov. 15 at the Oakland Marriott City Center.

The AFP-GGC and NCG hosted their 21st award luncheon to celebrate and honor the institutions and individuals whose work improves and enriches the Bay Area community.
Carter, executive director of the Bay Area Black United Fund since 1997, received the Outstanding Foundation Professional Award. This award recognizes leadership and exceptional achievement in the field of grantmaking.
Neal, chair of the Oakland Community Fund and former Oakland Port commissioner, was recognized for her long history of serving as a volunteer, advocate and board member for organizations helping homeless women and children. Over the last few years, she has been a stalwart supporter of Covenant House California in its expansion in Oakland.
Gasia Mikaelian from KTVU Channel 2 News served as the luncheon’s emcee.
For the event, organizers partnered with the Alameda County Community Food Bank to collect donations of non-perishable foods.
“We’re so grateful to National Philanthropy Day for partnering with us to deliver food to the thousands of children and families we serve in our communities. The need is so great during the holidays and the generosity of the Bay Area organizations is so appreciated,” said Barbara Darrow-Blake, director of development at the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
