brings his soul music to
Hayward
By Eldridge “Big Cat” Tolefree
Isaac Hayes has
earned his place in American History and a spot at the Rock and Roll
Hall Of Fame. The legendary soul-man has many Grammy awards, multiple
gold records, an Oscar, a best-selling cookbook and two successful restaurants
on his long list of credits.
For over a decade Hayes has been considered
royalty, a King of the Ada coastal district of Ghana in Africa where
he built a huge educational facility through his Foundation. Born August
20, 1942 in Covington, Tenn., south of Memphis as an orphaned infant,
Hayes and his sister were raised by their maternal grandparents. They
both instilled love in them for the simple pleasures of country living.
After traveling to the big city at age seven, Hayes saw his first supermarket
and Popsicle. He couldn’t guess then that later in life he would
be able buy his own store and Popsicle franchise.
Despite his rough beginnings, Hayes has gone on to
become one of the most recognizable names and faces in entertainment history.
His incredible music and film career has been featured for over a decade around
the world. The Hall of Fame inductee is expected to perform music from his “The
Ultimate Isaac Hayes, Can You Dig It,” album including hits from his
1969 “Hot Buttered Soul” album live at KBLX’s tenth Annual
Stone Soul Picnic.
Hayes will perform at 11 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May
28 at the Pioneer Amphitheatre on the campus of Cal State East Bay; 25800 Carlos
Bee Blvd. in Hayward The daylong festival will also feature Tower of Power
with Lenny Williams, The Whispers, The Dells and Sunny Hawkins. For more information,
