The Bay Area Blues Society and the city of Oakland hosted the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame and Awards Show on Saturday at Kimball’s Carnival in Jack London Square.

   The event honored blues, jazz and gospel artists for their contributions to blues.
   This year’s inductees included Little Stanley and the Five Brooks, The Fuller Brothers, Ike and Tina Turner, The Whispers, Big John Evans, The Green Brothers, Omar Shariff aka David Alexander, The Stovall Sisters, The Young Hearts, Jasper Evans, The Mekesmo Club, Lenny Williams, Teddy “Blues Master” Watson and Terrible Tom Bowden.
    Award recipients included Tia Carroll, Blues Female Vocalist of the Year; Julien Vaught, Blues Saxophone of the Year; Doug Edwards, Blues DJ of the Year; Anna Maria Flechero, Jazz Group of the Year; and Ernie Johnson, R&B Male Vocalist of the Year.
    Lifetime Achievement awards were presented to Renel Brooks-Moon and Mary Campbell.
    The event supported the Bay Area Blues Society’s ongoing programs, most notably the Blues in the Schools Program, through which local blues musicians teach the history of the blues to young students and provide instrument instruction.
