Holistic health practitioner
promotes mission of silence

From the Globe Health Desk

Dafina Kuficha, an Oakland based holistic health practitioner, is asking area residents to join her in bringing the practice of silence as a means to creating a more peaceful, loving and non-violent world.
Kuficha will hold her first session for her Center for Global Silence with a panel of advisory members who include Dr. Michael Beckwith, one of the teachers on the popular movie, The Secret, Eisha Mason, an organizer for the Season of Non- Violence, and Rev. Jim Lee of Christ Unity Church.
The local effort in support of global silence hopes to inspire and motivate everyone from individual city residents, organizations, and youth programs to practice silence for that day. From midnight to 11:59 p.m., participants are encouraged to practice “noble silence.” Those unable to spend an entire day in silence are encouraged to take 5- 15 minutes of contemplative silence every hour on the hour throughout the day.
“If you are unable to have a silent mouth on that day, make a commitment to speak and act from a loving heart,” said Kuficha. . Parents, teachers and others are encouraged to embrace and share the concept of silence with their children and students. Participation can be as simple as focusing on loving self-talk, harmonious relationships with family friends, coworkers, students, and with whom ever you come in contact with on that day.
Participants are encouraged to share the various ways they decide to spend each day of global silence, and how they will bring the practice of silence into their lives. Their comments will be placed on the center’s blog.
Members of the advisory group are recruiting family, friends, and colleagues to participate in silence on the specified days which also include September 9 and March 1, 2008. Other groups are encouraged to contact the CFGS to become part of this global effort.
CFGS is a global and secular effort with a long-term goal of establishing international centers for teaching and training others, including children in the powerful practice of silence.
“We are overrun, distracted, confused, disturbed and disrespected with the continual noise that assaults us on this planet. Televisions are blaring constantly; cars are outfitted with nerve damaging stereo systems; and, the incessant ringing and answering of cell phones seem to receive more attention than crying babies, says Kuficha, a licensed acupuncturist and founder of Treasure Your Health Institute, located in Oakland’s “herb” hill, formerly known as “pill hill.”
