Black Expo 2007 attracted thousands of businesses to the Oakland Convention center this past weekend for a wide range of business programs and entertainment with the well-being of African Americans in mind.

    This year’s sponsors included Alameda County, PG&E, The Port of Oakland, BART, Comcast, Kaiser and Wells Fargo along with many others.

   The Expo festivities began with the 12th Annual African- American Excellence in Business Awards and Scholarship Gala which featured a segment honoring 101 + men making a difference in our community.

    Other pre-Expo events included a job showcase and procurement fair which provided information on employment opportunities, testing and hiring practices and information on current and upcoming contraction opportunities.
    The main event took place over the weekend. Highlights included college day activities and information for high school students, a health and wellness pavilion, a homebuyers fair which featured financial institutions and real estate professionals ready to assist buyers in purchasing homes, a Healthy Oakland van which offered free health screenings to attendees, and an internet café. Entertainment included performances by Cherrelle and Howard Hewett and the well-anticipated Gospel Explosion held Sunday.
