27 youth receive grants through
Richmond Scholarship Program

Last week, 27 Richmond youth received scholarships during the first annual Richmond Scholarship Program.

  Eight organizations sponsored the event and contributed nearly $60,000 to the scholarship program.
    They were: the George Miller Youth Fund, Guardians of Justice, Hal Holt Memorial Fund, The Kiwanis Club of Richmond, Malvern-Wilson Alumni Association, Richmond Police Officers Association, National Latino Peace Officers Association/Contra Costa County, West Contra Costa Business and Education United Inc.
    Scholarship recipients included: Fayepou Saechao, Richmond High School; Tephiny Jones, Contra Costa College; Rosa Orellanan, Contra Costa College; Kadija Bateman, Rodriquez High School; Kevin Warmsley, CSU Sacramento; Rodolfo Orozco, Richmond High School; Miriam Franco, Kennedy High School; Cindy Galvez, De Anza High School; Vivbrensan Beale, Hercules High School; Samantha-Jo Taitano, De Anza High School; Sedrick Smith, John Cunningham, Josephone Ayankoya, Anthony Hill, Bian Mertens, Douglas Fabini, Elizabeth Sanders, Pierre Mays and Seigi Karasaki, El Cerrito High School; Michaela Alexander, Kennedy High School; Tiffany Scott, Kappa High School; Kasthleen Ruiz, Kennedy High School; and Champy Saiprasert, Cornell Savage, Luis Romo and Jennifer Hall, Richmond High School.
