Lincoln University of Missouri celebrates 140 years

On Saturday afternoon Bay Area Lincoln University of Missouri alumni celebrated the school’s 140th anniversary in Oakland at Geoffrey’s Inner Circle. Present were alums and their friends and relatives.

LUCongresswoman Barabara Lee, whose grandmother and aunt both graduated from Lincoln, was the keynote speaker.
    She spoke about historic black colleges as important and viable options for young black students, especially in the wake of legislation prohibiting affirmative action at many universities.
    University President Carolyn Mahoney also addressed the audience.
    She updated them on important advancements at the school and the status of a dormitory damaged by a fire.
    She gratefully accepted a donation from the local alumni association to aid in the efforts to repair and restore property lost to students whose rooms were affected.
