| Macdonald Avenue Revitalization Plan
developer given go-ahead by council
By Globe Staff
The Macdonald Avenue Revitalization Plan is in action. On May 2, City Council and the Richmond Redevelopment Agency Board approved the Disposition and Development Agreement (DDA) with AF Evans, who will develop the properties comprising the 12th and Macdonald Mixed Use Project.
The proposed project includes approximately 237 forsale condominiums (15 percent as affordable units), 21,000 square feet of retail space and approximately 251 on-site parking spaces.
The 3.5-acre site is bound on the west by 11th St., on the south by Macdonald Ave., on the east by 13th St. and on the north by Nevin Ave. AF Evans and future tenants will enter into First Source Hiring Agreements with the city via its Employment and Training Department. Richmond residents will get priority consideration for jobs created by the project.
“I am very pleased to see this project getting started,” said Mayor Irma Anderson. “It will create a pedestrian-friendly, transit- oriented urban environment in close proximity to the only Bay Area Inter-modal Transit Station — consisting of BART, Amtrak and AC Transit. With residential units over groundfloor retail, it provides maximum social and economic benefit to the entire downtown neighborhood, and it leverages the momentum of the Metro Walk Transit Village in a way that will promote major improvements on Macdonald Avenue.”
The project is expected to be complete by December 2009.
