Denise Bradley, executive director of the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD), recently announced the appointment of Ernest (Ernie) Urquhart, senior vice president of Catholic Healthcare West, as the new president of the MoAD board of directors.
Urquhart will replace Belva Davis, who submitted her resignation as board president effective May 1. Davis will continue to serve on the museum board.
“My goal was to raise $5 million for construction and to help shape the vision of the museum. I’ve achieved these goals, and it’s time for new leadership. I’m working on several special projects and writing a book,” said Davis.
Urquhart has been an executive at Catholic Healthcare West for the past five years. Prior to that he was a corporate executive at Johnson & Johnson, Exxon and Harcourt Inc. He also served as chairman of the board of the Metropolitan Orlando Urban League. He now also serves on the board of the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre and the National Association of Health Services Executives.
“I’m honored to have been elected president of the MoAD board of directors,” said Urquhart. “MoAD sends a strong message to the community and to the world about the value of inclusion through our shared linkages and heritage.”
“I look forward to working with our new president,” said Bradley. “Ernie has been very involved both as a board member and as a champion of MoAD within Catholic Healthcare West, one of MoAD’s major corporate supporters. I know that under his guidance and leadership, the museum will continue to grow on many levels.”
MoAD strives to connect all people through the art, culture and history of the African Diaspora.
