Take Wings Foundation to hold gala
By Globe Staff

Actress Terri Vaughn grew up in San Francisco’s Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood.
Today, she gives back to her old community by offering programs and mentoring to girls, many living in public housing, through her Take Wings Foundation (TWF).
Vaughn will host the foundation’s Fourth Annual Angel Awards gala on Saturday, August 12 at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at Embarcadero Center in San Francisco.

Actor/comedian D.L. Hughley (right) will be the emcee for the Saturday, August 12 Take Wings Foundation Fourth Annual Angel Awards Gala. Founded by Bay Area-native actress Terri Vaughn (left), the Take Wings Foundation provides scholarships, education and life skills training to at-risk teenage girls in the Bay Area.

Actor/comedian D.L. Hughley will be the emcee for the event, and Congresswoman Maxine Waters will give the keynote address.
Other participants include San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris and actors Loretta Devine, Morris Chestnut and Wendy Raquel Robinson.
TWF’s annual dinner serves as a fundraiser for at-risk teenage girls living in the Bay Area. TWF will present scholarships during the gala, in addition to honoring community leaders whose contributions have helped make a difference in the lives of youth.
Tickets for the event are $175 for dinner or $250 for the dinner and VIP reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Vaughn, who starred in the TV sitcoms “The Steve Harvey Show” and “All of Us,” established TWF to provide scholarships and workshops for young women.
“I grew up in San Francisco and it’s important to me to be able to give back to the community and to help encourage young women to achieve their dreams, whatever they may be,” said Vaughn. “We’re grateful to our sponsors and supporters who help make the gala and our year-round outreach possible.”
Vaughn recently completed filming on the latest Tyler Perry film (Madea’s Family Reunion) and is currently starring in the independent feature film Dirty Laundry with Loretta Devine, Rockmond Dunbar and Jenifer Lewis.
