FRANCISCO – The Black Employees Association
(BEA) of Pacific Gas and Electric Company awarded
$30,000 in scholarships to thirty deserving Bay Area
students. The winners were selected over 90 eligible
applications and represent a diverse group of students
that will continue their education in colleges and
universities throughout the country.
The 2005 Pacific Gas and Electric
Company BEA Scholarship Recipients are:

“We
are proud to support and encourage the scholarship
winners in their efforts to pursue a higher education,”
said Pacific Gas and Electric Company President and
CEO Gordon Smith. “They have accomplished much
in 18 years, and their hard work and determination
to succeed will serve them well in college and beyond.
” Each of this year’s
selected applicants have displayed a broad range in
leadership, commitment to their community and family,
exceptional academic achievement and demonstrated
financial need, all of which further magnifies their
outstanding scholastic achievements.
This year’s BEA Scholarship
Fund is the result of a grant from Pacific Gas and
Electric Company and BEA fundraising activities and
employee donations. PG&E Corporation was declared
by Black Enterprise magazine one of the top 30 best
companies for diversity. In its July cover story PG&E
Corporation is included among the best in demonstrating
significant representation of African Americans and
other ethnic minorities in four key areas: corporate
procurement, corporate boards, senior management,
and the total workforce.
