It
isn’t everyday that pre-pubescent girls get
the chance to ask frank questions about their bodies.
Many have never been told about or taught the female
reproductive system. Research has indicated that many
mothers are either reluctant to discuss the body’s
natural processes with their daughters or they just
do not have the time.
It is one of the main reasons young girls tend to
fear and dread puberty; especially menstruation.
For the past nine years, Girltalk Seminars has provided
a comfortable and safe atmosphere in which adolescent
girls can learn more about female anatomy and physiology,
personal hygiene and responsibilities of becoming
a young woman.
Over 300 girls in the Bay area have attended these
workshops and started celebrating their rites of passage
with their family and friends.
Girls who have participated tend to communicate more
openly with their mothers and other female role models.
They also have a better understanding of their bodily
functions and are better prepared to make decisions
that will directly impact their health on their journey
to womanhood.
The next group presentation is Saturday, August 20th
, at the Hall of Health, in Berkeley, California.
Perhaps you may know someone who should hear about
this. Please call Mary Arnold, RNP, at 510-595-3814,
if you would like to discuss a presentation for your
school or organization.
I am sure that somewhere, a little girl will thank
you. |
