All
of us need inspiration to get us through the challenges
of this life and to know that God is the wellspring
that refreshes our spirits, gives us courage, and
guides our footsteps.
Each
week the Globe publishes a “Prayer for Willie”
taken from a collection by Dr. Hamilton T. Boswell,
to remind each of us of the presence of God in our
lives, no matter what faith, denomination or interpretation
we choose for ourselves.

Reassessing
your greatest potential
Often
when we think of potential, we focus on material wealth,
financial success, a large family and nice home. While
each of these has its place, none gives evidence of
our true potential. Potential, from God’s perspective,
is the capacity He has given to achieve and accomplish
His will.
Seven steps to reach your potential for God are:
1. Ask God to give you the desire
to reach your potential. Of the highest office in
the church, Paul said, “...If a man desire the
office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.”
(lTim.3:1)
2. Be willing to make the decision
to move forward trusting in God. Make a commitment
never to compromise your godly convictions. “Commit
thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall
bring it to pass.” (Ps. 37: 5)
3. Seek God’s direction and
guidance. Without God’s direction, you may find
yourself wandering aimlessly through life. “Ask,
and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” (Matt.
7: 7)
4. Be determined. God is committed
to protecting you; follow Christ no matter what comes
across your path. “1 can do all things through
Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Phil. 4:13)
5. Develop the skills God has given
you. Each of us has talents and abilities that make
us unique in God’s eyesight. Ask Him to teach
you how to be all He wants you to be. “Whatsoever
thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for
there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom,
in the grave, whither thou goest.” (Eccles 9:
10)
6. Detach yourself from the world’s
thinking. This step requires a conscious effort on
your part, and can be achieved only by studying God’s
word. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim. 2:15)
7. Be disciplined in mind and body.
You cannot reach your full potential for God around
sin. “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal
body, that ye should obey it in the lust thereof”(Rom.
6:12) |
