Black Elected Officials of the East Bay
endorse Thurmond for Assembly

From the Globe Political Desk

The Black Elected Officials of the East Bay and the group’s chair, Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, have endorsed Richmond City Councilman Tony Thurmond for Assembly, district 14.
“Tony Thurmond has been a tireless advocate for youth, and his work in both Alameda and Contra Costa County is inspiring,” said Carson. “I share Tony’s commitment to ending the violence in our community, fighting for better schools and opportunities for our young people and working to bring highwage jobs to our constituents.”
“I am honored to earn the endorsements of Supervisor Carson and the Black Elected Officials of the East Bay,” said Thurmond. “Supervisor Carson is an important ally in the fight to bring jobs, universal health care, better education and environmental protections to our community.”
Thurmond is the executive director of Beyond Emancipation, a nonprofit that provides oversight and mentoring to help former foster youth make successful transitions into adulthood. He has served on the Richmond City Council since 2005.
Thurmond has also received endorsements from Congressman George Miller, Assemblyman Sandré Swanson, Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas and the Legislative Black Caucus.
